(OPC), talk about the photonics sector, trends, local companies,
employment trends, skill requirements and the future of the industry.
Ottawa is recognized as one of the world's outstanding centres for
photonics research, teaching and commercialization.  The OPC is the voice
of Ottawa's photonics community. By providing opportunities for
networking, guest speaker presentations, and trade missions, OPC is
committed to helping our members attract investment, employees and
business opportunities locally and internationally. The OPC is part of the
Ontario Photonics Industry Network (OPIN) and a member of the Canadian
Photonics Consortium (CPC).

About Mike Scott
Mike Scott was born in the UK and educated at Cambridge where he obtained
bachelors and doctors degrees in Materials Science.  After a Fulbright
Fellowship in the USA he took up an academic career at the University of
Sussex in the UK.  In 1982 he joined Standard Telecommunications
Laboratories (subsequently acquired by Nortel Networks) where he held a
number of research and development positions in optical fibres and cables,
eventually becoming Director of Optical Communications.  In 1996 he moved
to Canada as VP Technology and Product Development for Nortel's Optical
Components business with global responsibility for development teams in
silicon, gallium arsenide and optical devices. On the sale of the business
in 2002 he became CTO of Bookham.  Mike retired from Bookham in 2005 and
is now an independent consultant.  He holds an adjunct professorship at
the University of Ottawa and is on the boards of a number of companies and
government agencies in Canada, US and Europe.
